Does Routinely Unplugging My Router Interfere With My Internet Connection?

By ipod video converter Posted in: iPod video

I have not been able to find a way to block my kid’s ipod, video games, etc. from the internet when they aren’t supposed to be online, so I typically disconnect the router to allow internet only to my desktop. Recently, my internet has been spotty, & I’m wondering if routinely disconnecting the router is causing this? Is there a better way to control my kids’ internet time? (don’t suggest taking their devices cause that is a HUGE fiasco, which is why I’ve resorted to unplugging the router)

Most routers these days are dual-band. This allows for the owner to set up his internet as well as a simultaneous guest account which the owner has complete control over meaning you can sever the connection at will. There is also your wireless settings. Go to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and you would then log into your router. The username is usually admin and password is usually password. YOu can search your router with “default password” added on the end. Anyways once you are there you can go to wireless. In one of the sections you will see each person that is accessing your router. You will see the name of their respective device name as well as a mac address. This helps because another section in wireless is called mac filtering. You can then enter the mac numbers you want to block and they go offline.Of course in a perfect world they should respect your wishes.http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?p… http://www.ehow.com/facts_7624426_set-gu…

unplugging your router probably isn’t the cause…and anyways can’t you either just turn of the router…or add access restrictions in the router manager? you could block services to a device by ip and setup the block on certain day and times via the router manager usually to access the router manager its 192.168.1.1 if you don’t have the log in info… admin and password will usually work… or if you forgot you’d have to reset the router to factory default by getting a ballpoint pen and pressing a button in a little hole behind your router.. then try admin and password
    here’s a video that might help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcnA04T4t…
to find ips or mac ips for a device you’d have to look under attached devices…or look at your logs under content filtering
